I made a new blog
April 4th, 2009So, I finally got around to building a website… then made a blog… now I have to start “blogging.”
THE WEBSITE
I needed a new site. I’ve been doing half finished versions of a new portfolio site for years… since 2004. My current job has changed a bit and the hints of a possible end to it have been hanging around for awhile. That, coupled with a growing distaste for Miami culture and a girlfriend who lives in another country, finally motivated me to go beyond a half site. The concept of the site was to give an overall impression of me, what I do, and what I can do. In my many half sites I continually made navigation menus… like I had so much to put on a site that I needed 5 pages. So, the concept of the site was to show a little bit of a lot of me, and any potential employer visiting my site can get a pretty informed opinion of me in a few glances. I used a variety of things on the site, most I just learned on the fly. here is a short list; jQuery, sIfr, JSON, and the usual CSS, HTML stuff.
THE BLOG
I had the brilliant idea to make a blog using wordpress that only displays one post per page, and instead of posting an image in the body, have it appear as the background for that post only… except I had no idea how. The one per page was a simple matter, however, I’m still working on some of the fallout of how I implimented it, but I have someone helping… I think. The background image was a bit of a pain and after a few unsuccessful attempts I found someone who had the same brilliant idea but the skill to have already implimented it, here’s the smarter guy. So I started the blog, but I’m still working on a few things, once it’s all sorted I’ll make a mini loop for the excerpt on my main site, and move on to “blogging” often.
